GPA calculatioin

I am really confused how to calculate the GPA even after reading the http://www.csumentor.edu/planning/high_school/gpa_calculator.asp, can someone give me a sample of calculation? Is it I only calculate grades from 10th and 11th? And there is a max for me to count my AP/Honor class? Thanks!

Look up which courses are a-g using this link for your HS. Also note which courses are UC approved for the extra honors points.

https://hs-articulation.ucop.edu/agcourselist/#/list/search/all
Then add up how many A’s, B’s, C’s etc and input into calculator. Then add up how many UC approved Honors/Ap classes up to 8 semsters and input.
If you are unsure, you can post your grades or PM me and I can help you.

Hi Gumbymom. Do you know if Cal Poly counts everything self-reported on the app in their GPA calculation including any middleschool courses like Algebra, or do they count only the high school courses?

Thank you

Their website says “Cal Poly does not update/correct your self-reported GPA. We will use the coursework and grades entered on the application to calculate an overall GPA for each applicant”

They offer acceptances based on self reported GPA. Once admitted, they verify with official transcripts. It keeps them from having to rectify, 50,000ish applications, most of whom they will reject anyway. If there are any discrepancies once admitted, it is grounds for rescission.

The application on CSU Mentor says to calculate your CSU GPA based on 10-11 grades. I am assuming that Cal Poly SLO must re-calculate the student’s GPA in order to include 9th grade (and maybe 7th or 8th grade math/foreign language grades?) based on the classes that have been included on the application. Is that right?

Yes they do re-calculate your GPA. I called and asked them this question.

Hi folks, than you for the replies. I was hoping CP would calculate the GPA on their own. It’s all online and automated so instead of going by what the kids put in go by the courses entered since CP is basing their decision on specifics of the courses anyway …

Reef2Reef, do you know if they kick out the middle-school classes? I’m not sure about those grades and don’t want to be called out later on.

Thanks for the info @Reef2Reefuser!

@Dad2018 - I would highly recommend putting down middle-school grades if they are math or foreign language because that plays a big part in the MCA score which is discussed in other threads. You should be able to call your child’s high school or middle school to get the grades.

You report middle school grades, but they don’t use them to calculate GPA. I’m not certain why reporting them is even important. As @Mumstheword2 pointed out though, they are very important in calculating the rigor portion of the MCA.

I know they count math from algebra on, even if that series started in 7th grade. I’m not certain that they go into middle school for foreign language though.

@Dad2018 they do not count middle school grades into the GPA calculation. Just grades from 9-11 grade. @eyemgh when I filled out the application they had spots for foreign language in middle school.

Good to know. Thanks!
