GPA Calculation

Hey!

I'm an international student from an Indian school. On my transcript my grades are provided in an A-F grading system. How do I calculate my GPA from that for Berkeley?

A=4, B=3, C=2 etc . For accpetable honors/AP courses add 1 point per semester (up to 8 points total).
Only sophomore year and junior year courses count.
On a semester basis, each full year course will count as 2 semesters.

How do you know which classes are approved by UCs?

The classes must fall in the a-g course list. For california high schools you can check your school's approved course at:
https://pathways.ucop.edu/doorways/list/

A'right I'm really confused about the whole American school system with the sophomore and the junior year and all. If I have 5 subjects from Grade 9 to 12 with A's in everything except two B's in Physics and Chemistry in Grade 11, with only one grade per year what would my GPA be?

The honours system is not a part of our education system so all courses are non-honours.

If it helps in Grade 9 and 10, my subjects were Science, Social Science, English, French and Maths.
In Grade 11 and 12, my subjects are Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science and English.

From Grade 9-10, all my grades are A. Grade 11 except Physics and Chemistry which are B, everything else is A. In Grade 12, everything is A.

Could someone please take the trouble and calculate my GPA?

9th and 12th grade will not count in the gpa calculation so:
10th and 11th 5 courses each, 8 A, 2 B,assuming 2 semesters you have :
8x2x4 + 2x2x3 = 76 divided by (10x2 courses) = 3.8 unweighted gpa.

Is that upto Berkeley standards?

I'm not sure I totally understand about how they cap the GPA. If I'm taking 4 AP's Junior year, do they cap it? What if I took five? Also, do they average the sophomore and junior GPA together?

You can take 8 semesters of honors classes from 10-11 grade. Some honors classes at schools are not honors classes at UC, so be sure to check.

Is there any point to take more than 8 semesters of honors classes? How much more does it help to take a hard classload?

I'm still not clear. If they only count 8 approved classes, wouldn't it be impossible to get a 4.5 unless you take like three classes a year? Say I take one approved class sophomore year and five junior year. That's 12 semesters of approved honors courses. You can only count eight? If I get all A's junior year, I would only have a 4.27 UC GPA.

You're right and what's worst is that if you took more courses and got more A's, your gpa will be even lower.
When my bro applied 2 years ago, they did not cap at 8, the Berkeley gpa was around 4.3. Does anyone know what it is now with 8 honors cap?

Although they say they cap at 8 honors, that might be true for determining eligibility into UC.

The application instructions said that they also look at the unweighted gpa and the fully weighted gpa with all the honors.

My school uses the +/- in GPA. Is an A- same as an A for Berkeley?

dunno. but anyone know the berk. avg gpa with the 8 cap?
