Hi, so I have a question. Is GPA calculated based on the number of classes or the number of credits? I’m taking 7 classes this year for 6.5 credits since one of my seven classes is a one semester online class. Do I divide my GPA by 7 or 6.5? Thanks!
GPA is calculated by number of credits. You multiply the grade points by the number of credits the course is worth, then divide the sum by the total number of credits. If you get an A in a semester class that would be worth 4*.5 = 2, for example.
@guineagirl96 : so I don’t just add 4.5+4.5+4.5…and then divide by the number of credits? That’s what I thought this whole time, but I think I understand now. Thanks for your help!
Yes, you do add the values and divide by the number of credits, but you need to adjust for how many credits each class is worth. A semester class is worth half of what a full-year class is worth.
So if my semester class was weighted as an honors course it would be 2.25? Okay, thank you so much!
