GPA calculation?

Does anybody know, do all public colleges/Universities in a given State use the same high school GPA calculation formula, or does it differ by school? I am particularly interested in how JMU and other Virginia public instituations calculate GPA. Thank you.

Follow-up question: Specifically, wondering if JMU and/or other public Universities in Virginia use a simple A-B-C-D-F approach of if they use A+,A,A-,B+,B,B- etc. approach?

It's done by your school.

I dont think that is correct. Seems to me every University has their own manner of calculating GPA's. Otherwise they'd be comparing apples to oranges.

ThomasFre, you are correct. Colleges do recalculate gpas. Many throw out classes which are not needed for admissions. I went to an info session at a private U. and they said that they are very happy that students learned how to "basket weave", but they were not going to count those classes as part of gpa. Also some schools are on a scale of 6.0 and others 4.0. Also some high schools add 1.0 for an AP, or .5 for honors and others do not (or do something else) when calculating gpa.
