Speaking of top colleges:

How do colleges handle semester-long classes as opposed to year-long ones? Are they just ignored? Do they carry less weight? Do they just take whatever the high school tells them? Or is it too school-specific to get a definitive answer?

Which colleges ignore freshman-year classes? I know the UCs do, but any other top ones?

For colleges that will ignore some classes on your transcript, how is that handled? I have a few classes that were taken as firm requirements for a magnet program at my high school (firm as in you had to take that specific class, instead of being able to choose between a couple) that may or not just be discarded as fluff- how does that go? (How many colleges do this, anyway? All, or just a few? I guess most of them would probably want to discard P.E....)

(And if any/most/all of these are intensely school-specific, can you let me know for Stanford and Berkeley?)
