Hi
I currently pursuing Chemical Engineering from BITS-Pilani, Dubai Campus. Its an Indian College with its branch in Dubai. I wanna transfer to the US. My GPA is 5.46 out of 10. Can anybody give me an idea of how much will it be out of 4?
There's supposed to be a special way of calculating it. If you wanna know my grades for each subject I will post them.

im going to give you two different ways here

1) this one will give you a decent estimate, if not exact number - this is just a propotion, so you set up the equation (x/4) = (5.46/10), with x being your GPA...so your GPA would be a 2.184 (you're probably screaming at this point, but a 5.46 is about half of 10, and a 2.1 is about a half of 4)

2) look at what points you recieve for each grade (5 for C, 7.5 for B, ect...whatever those point values are) and again, use a proportion formula (x/4) = (point value/10)...this will give you the point value (x) you'd recieve if it was on 4.0 scale...then calculate your gpa by multiply that point value times the number of credits that class is, doing so for each class, then divide by the number of total credits taken

for c its 6
b = 8
a=10
d = 4

Then you would have about a 1.8

what's your rank?

nah were not ranked........and what is it really 1.8???
i e-mailed iowa state about this quiestion and they said that a 5.46 in an indian grading system is almost equivalent to a B-in the US grading system

thats insane...the iowa school might be out of a 5.0, and a 2.23 isnt even a B-, but a high C+...
the math is simple, if the GPA is directly related to the GPA in the US, then out of a 4.0 you have a 2.184, which is a C or C+...if your GPA grades are really tough, then the school might raise it a bit, but you can count on having a C+ GPA
