hi, i need help with the conversion of gpa. i completed secondary school in ghana this year and i am applying to universities in the usa…i have been asked to submit my gpa but i have no idea how to go about it. i will be very grateful if someone helped me with suggestions. thank you
Ask the schools in US. Are you try to convert from 0-100 to 0 to 4.0?
Rather than a GPA, indicate:
1° percentage of students (1%, 5%, 10%, 20%, 30%…) who get that grade or higher in your school typically. For example, if the grade is 53 and 70% students did or typically do worse, indicate “top 30%”. If 90% did worse then indicate “top 10%”.
2° how that correlates to national exams. For example, if a 53 at your school equals a 53 on national exams, indicate the school’s grading scale is “on level”. if a 53 at your school correlates to a 48 on national exams, it means your school has grade inflation and teachers are more lenient than average. If a 53 at your school correlates to a 57 on national exams, it means your school has grade deflation and teachers are stricter, so that the grading scale needs to be considered in that perspective.
Typically, students who want to attend top universities want to have a GPA around 3.75 unweighted (that means, “without added points because a class was harder than average” - weighted means “with points added because the class was harder than average”) and for Top 25 typically higher than that.
Did they actually say you had to convert it though? They might just need your actual grades and maybe they have their own conversions of it?
