GPA Cutoff at privates?

I'm looking at my high school gpa, and my entire gpa from freshman-junior is being held down because of my freshman year grades. without freshman year, my gpa looks decently good. Do you think schools like nyu will see my gpa (w/freshman yr) and throw me out without looking at the rest of my application because i did not make "the cutoff gpa"? although my sophomore and junior years both show an improvement, i really don't want to ruin my chances just because i screwed up freshman year...
Freshman Year: half B's, half C's
Sophomore Year: mostly B's and A's
Junior: Mostly B's and A's

*again, my main question is based off of whether or not they will throw me out automatically because they see my gpa with freshman year included.

GPA W/9th GRADE (9-11): 3.28 WEIGTHED
GPA W/O 9th GRADE (10-11): 3.8 WEIGHTED

as you can see, my freshmen grades hold down my gpa ALOT. i’m wondering whether NYU will only look at the 3.2 gpa and cut me cause i don’t make the gpa cut. will they see that i have dramatically improved in 10th and 11th grade?

this is of course w/out SAT’s in picture.

Among private schools, Stanford used to say on its web site that it does not include 9th grade course grades in GPA considerations, although a 3.8 after honors/AP weighting may not be very competitive there. However, their process is holistic, so they will see the 9th grade course grades anyway.

The schools I’ve read about that do not use freshman year are Stanford, the UCs, and Princeton. As UCBAlumnus stated, a 3.8 weighted is not going to get Stanford or Princeton to sit up and take notice. All colleges that use the Common App are supposed to use some type of holistic admission evaluation so you won’t be thrown out for the 3.28, but your app will suffer in comparison to others.

I think that Carnegie Mellon and UMich also ignore freshman grades.

I have nothing really to contribute, except that it made me shudder to see “cutoff” and “privates” right next to each other like that in the title of this thread.

Colleges would much rather see you have A’s in AP classes than in honors or regular classes in 9th and 10th grade so if you do have A’s in AP classes than you should be ok. But year, Carnegie Mellon and UMichigan also ignore 9th grade grades (haha <-)

I don’t think that’s true anymore at Michigan

LOL @ Sikorsky
