gpa difference between schools

Right now I am a sophomore in college and have a 3.3 gpa. The problem that I have been experiencing is that friends of mine have a higher gpa than me even though from high school I know that I do much better in school than them. The difference is that I go to probably the top school in the state and they go to one of the smaller public schools. Is this something that could hurt me in the future? I feel that employers will look more at my lower gpa instead of accounting for the fact that I went to a much more competitive school than others in consideration.

If the schools they go to are much less reputable (and not just a little less), all things being equal, you are going to be the more competitive candidate, even with the lower GPA (unless maybe it is goes below 3.0).

However, the fact that you would transfer to another school purely on this basis is mind-boggling. If the school is not an overall match, sure, but just because your grades are decent, but not fantastic? You’re willing to risk going to a school that in every other way might not match (possibly making grades worse), just to try to get easier work, which does not appear to actually be bothering you in the first place except for old friends making better grades? Sorry, but that is just crazy.
