I have two questions for anyone who might know something about college admissions.
Firstly, is GPA counted as weighted or unweighted for HYPSM and Cornell? Does unweighted mean A and A+ are both counted as 4? Our school doesn't provide class ranking till senior year, but will class ranking factor in year end grades or semester grades?
I have one B freshmen year out of 8 classes, which would put me at a 3.9 GPA. I feel that is pretty competitive, but not at my school as weighted. I only had one A+.

Also, people keep saying ECs should be done on a national level. I have a passion for dancing, but not ballet or any traditional form. I'm a break dancer... it's really hard to find any competitions that could showcase my talent. I still have two years to go and I'm going to work my ass off dancing. Still, would this help any on a college app to these top schools?

They use unweighted. That means +s don’t count, an A is a 4 a B is a 3 a C is a 2… they use the weighted gpa to tell if you took honors/ap classes or not

I highly doubt ECs HAVE to be done at a national level. Bboying is especially hard to compete at a national level, since you have do be uber dope to be able to compete in large-scale competitions like BOTY, Red Bull, IBE, etc. It all depends on how good you are right now. Since you’re still a sophomore, go compete in some small local competitions and in a year or so, you’ll be pretty well known in your scene so maybe you can qualify for bigger regional competitions. You could do some performances for your school or give people lessons.

Also, some colleges accept supplemental videos for dance (although its usually for “classical” dances like ballet, which ****es me off). Get some airflares and you’ll blow adcoms’ minds :D
