I know this topic has been brought up too many times, and I know the general answer is it doesn't matter as much as research experience and it really varies. However I'm a bit unsatisfied, I mean can a student with something like a 3.3 GPA even get into graduate school even if he has a world of research experience?

My situation is that I kind of kicked myself in the ass by taking twice the course load at a community college so I can make the Fall 2009 semester to transfer into UCSD, at the moment I'm taking I believe 24 semester units which is 24X1.5=36 quarter units?(I'm not sure if it's X1.5 or not) So that's a lot of units, and I'm struggling a bit, so I can probably barely make the 3.0 gpa requirement for transfer, maybe a 3.2 tops. So I'd have two more years of easy cruising to make up for my GPA.

So I suppose my question is, has anyone gotten into any field of graduate school with quite a low GPA like 3.3 3.2 3.4 or something? Trying to get into behavioral neuroscience, which I suppose is the experimental psychology degree.

Get the minimum gpa (which is 3.0 for most grad programs) and explain your situation in your SOP. The rest of your app will just have to make up for the lower gpa, is all.

Thanks again for the help! That's definitely uplifting, 2.8 gpa and got into standford.

Damn I just realized that I'd probably have to take the psychology GRE(instead of the biology) if I want to get into some kind of behavioral neuroscience program.

when you transfer over to ucsd your gpa becomes 0.00. your community college gpa doesnt carry over. so as long as you get your act together you should be ok!

Really?? That was complete news for me. Should be a lot easier at UCSD considering I wouldn't be taking twice the courseload, thanks for the info!
