GPA for Ivies

hey all,

My UW GPA is 3.87
My W GPA is 4.1

Do these give me a good chance for the Ivies?
(im esspecialy worried about my W GPA)

No better chance than anyone else. Your ECs better be spectacular.

That is a 'within range' GPA. It just means you meet the level of accepted students, but rejected students also have these types of grades.

It's an impossible question without knowing your school, averages there and what classes you took. A weighted 4.0 at some schools is top 1% and it's not even top 10% at others. Some schools weigh honors and APs the same, others differently.

See the thread on school profiles, it all comes down to school. Then there are people who are top 2% with a 1200 SAT, again, that tells you a lot about the school.

ok, to fill in the blanks here are the rest of my stats:

SATI 2320
SATII: Hebrew 800, physics 790, Math CII 790, World His 800, US history 780.

By the end of High school I would have taken 8 AP's out of 14 offered.

Well, I'd prefer if you had taken a bit more APs but your scores seem fine. Honestly though, I think that many if not most people who apply to the ivies'll have around the same scores as you so you're pretty much in the norm. I hope your ECs are really eye-popping and make sure to write killer essays.

ok, here are my EC's:

Thats not an EC. Do NOT list it as one.

o, what is it considered then? (under what category will I list it?)

Colleges ask what school(s) you went to on their applications.

"- published a book of poetry at the age of 10 in Israel (where I lived at the time). The book sold ~10,000 copies." ? Any chance you wrote it closer to age 11 ? It will look even better (mature).

And SAT 2320, I say your in everywhere.

You're going to community college, sucka!

It depends on how your school calculates the GPA and the grading scale it uses.

3.87 from one school might be amazing, and might suck at another. It's your rank/docile that matters more.

I think you're in good shape to apply anywhere. Who ever says your scores are mediocre are either blind or trying to discourage you to better their own chances. With your awesome scores and pretty good GPA but list of other accomplishments I think you should be ok where ever you apply. Good luck

pretty good stats.

GPA is VERY variable. I have a 3.9 unweighed GPA (somewhere in the 4.3s weighed), but it's darn good for my school, because it's probably the toughest-grading prep school in new england. My 3.9 does not equal your 3.9 or some other kid's 3.9. Schools do research as to how hard your school is.

Your GPA is good; however, admissions officers will also look at your class rank to evaluate how well you've performed compared to your classmates. So, if you are ranked very highly in your class (top 10%), your 3.87 uw 4.1 w gpa will be considered good. However, if you don't rank that highly compared to your classmates, your gpa may not be seen as spectacular. In addition, your courseload is important also. Colleges want students to take the most rigorous courses available at their high schools, especially "most selective" schools, such as the Ivy League, Stanford, MIT, etc. If a student takes the most rigorous courseload (or one of the most rigorous courseloads) available, his/her GPA will be a lot more valuable.
