GPA for transfer

I'm a current, first year student at Bard College, Rank 36 LAC...

looking to go to g-town, northwestern, or gwu

my HS stats are:

prep school NJ
SAT1: 1300/1940
GPA: 3.7 weighted

lot of good extra curriculars at bard...

what gpa should i strive for to transfer to any of these schools? I know i need to do my best, but so far things aren't looking great academically.

Is the 3.7 your hs GPA? Because it is excellent as a GPA from Bard.

I would imagine that, for those schools, 3.5 would be a minimum you would hope to achieve. Possibly a lower GPA could be outweighed by other factors. I would focus on working with profs, TAs, study groups etc. to get your GPA as high as you possibly can.

i wish transfer colleges weighed the rigor of your school more than they do...

when are you looking to apply?

if you are looking to apply for sophmore standing, your hs stats are going to have a lot of weight on your decision...your hs stats are a tad weak for gtown and nw, about right for gw...that being said, i think a 3.8 from bard over two or three semesters worth of grades would make you a competitive applicant for all three of those schools...a 3.6 and you would still be a strong applicant to gw and might have a shot at nw...best of luck

^^ Thanks for the feedback friends. I really appreciate it.

I decided to scrap Northwestern. Received a 3.5 GPA first semester at Bard. Looking at 3.8 for 2nd semester. Submitted apps for GWU, Gtown, and NYU. Finishing up Rice, WUSTL, and Emory apps. If you could chance me for one of those three as well, thatd be great

best Regards

Peter

Peter are you looking for 2009 fall semester transfer as a sophomore standing?

You will have a good shot for Emory and Rice, well for WUSTL, I really dont know. Bard's courseload is really heavy so you will be fine with a 3.5. However as Andale said, try to make your GPA as high as possible! I wonder if those schools you apply need ur 2nd semester mid-year report filled out by your professors. If they do, your 3.8 for 2nd semester will appear on the report, which obviously, enlarge your chance in those schools.
btw, deadline is coming and seems u need to hurry up! :D best luck!
