GPA for Transferring

Obviously, it’s best to have a GPA as close to 4.0 as possible if one hopes to transfer. But let’s say you go to a fairly selective college where grade deflation is the norm and most people have GPA’s well below 4.0. Will transfer students (especially those who had strong academic records in high school) be expected to have ~4.0 GPA’s too, or will colleges take into account the fact that some universities have more challlenging curricula than others?

Bump.

Having a 4.0 is not a requirement for transfer admission. The rigor of your school and of your curriculum will be taken into account.

I had a 3.6 from Georgetown, which isn’t known for grade deflation, and I got into 5/7 Ivies I applied to + other good schools. You don’t need a 4.0, though it’s obviously nice to have!
