GPA going to keep me out?

Hi, I am a senior with around a 3.4 from the official number one public school and wealthiest town in my state.
We send 3+ students to each Ivy and top 20 every year. I have a
31 ACT, 740 English and 720 Math SAT II's
700+ community service hours at a soup kitchen AND a nursing home
I've worked 15 hours a week since the summer going into freshman year at a grocery store-- I cashier and manage the front end
I attended Cornell University Summer College, taking the course Psychology 1280 and receiving a B
I founded my school newspaper, am editor of the school literary magazine, and am an active member of art club
I am Native American. For the safety of my personal info and my tribe, I will not list its name on CC. However, I am a registered of my tribe. This is my hook. Colleges want to increase their diversity, and not many Natives have 31 ACT's and come from top public schools.
I am an artist. I am going to submit an art supplement. I would share my artwork with this post to show its quality, but I don't know how to upload it. Also, I don't want to have people steal my work. Nevertheless, I am told that I have the talent of an adult artist.
Courses this year:
-Honors Psych *My school does not offer AP, but I am going to take the AP exam.
-Calculus
-Advanced Topics Bio
-Honors Spanish III Intermediate (AP did not fit in my schedule)
-AP Lit
I plan to major in psychology. College calculators all match me with mediocre schools for students who did not apply themselves. I was a straight A student in Middle School. :( However, in high school, I struggled with bullying and executive functioning disorder. Currently, about 3 assessments in in each class, I have straight A's this year. I've taken all honors courses throughout HS except for math. I took AP Lang last year. My GC said that colleges don't want students to take AP's for the sake of taking them, but instead to take the ones they actually like -- I like English.
Although I'm not a legacy, my uncle graduated from Cornell. My question is, if I apply ED to Cornell, do I have a shot? AND what schools should I apply to RD?

P.S. If you stalk my history (I hope you don’t), you’ll see that I posted in the past. I made up those stats because I was a weirdo. End of story. Please disregard them and don’t bring that bias into your response to this thread.

What is your class rank? Your school sends 3 each year to ivy schools. Are you one of the top 10 students in your class with your GPA?

In reality, your “Native American” hook is your best chance given your ACT and GPA.

My school does not rank in any way. However, it does send the highest GPA, which is above a 4 and obviously far above mine. It should be kept in mind that she is not nearly as well-rounded as I am, and certainly is not Native American, but rather Chinese.

BTW: I am applying ED with the alternate option, meaning Cornell’s CAS for psych is my first choice, and CALS for developmental sociology is my second choice.

bump10char *I am impatient lol.

I honestly think your hook is enough to get you in (especially since you are registered to your tribe)
I wouldn’t call it a match because your GPA is low but I wouldn’t be surprised if you got in.

@bananacream <3 you made my night :* thanks haha

The GPA is a bit low, but you have a good hook and talent in arts is definitely a plus. And with ED1, you’ll have higher chances so I’d say you have a fair shot.

@kgoyal05‌ Thanks!

Hey there bookiegirl. To be fair, I think you won’t be getting any other varied answers. I agree with the others, that is quite the hook you got there, not something you come across everyday. Your GPA is exactly the same as mine, a bit low, but it certainly doesn’t cut you out. I’m sure you’re aware of this but, don’t have all the eggs in the Cornell basket, apply to other places as well. How does Duke sound? Good luck!

@AGooodFloridian Haha alright thanks! I can only apply to one school ED though…

Does Dartmouth still have the guarantee (or, at least, special consideration) for Native Americans in its charter? If so, you should look into it.

Here’s a link to information about the Native American Program at Dartmouth. <a href=“Home | Native American Program”>Home | Native American Program;

@Woogzmam Thank you!

You have a lot of volunteering hours, and a 3.4 GPA is not that bad. You’ll be fine.
Good luck!

I think you have a good chance at Cornell! especially with your hook. Do you have any leadership positions? Maybe as a tutor to another student, an officer in some club? Have you put yourself out there with your artistic abilities and entered any art contests? Colleges want to see that you are putting yourself out there, using your interests, and challenging yourself! With your scores you have a great shot but highlighting your initiative may help you look like a better candidate to admissions!

OP, where did your sister with 2400 SAT get in and where did she wind up attending?

Perhaps her recent experience will be helpful in guiding you.

I think you’re very well rounded and will have a good shot getting accepted at Cornell - and any other school you apply too. Well rounded + Native American = :)

You’re in a really similar situation to me. Best of luck to both of us!
