I’m interested in science and plan to go to a school with a good science program. I’m looking into university of Pittsburgh but my grades might not be up to par. Sophomore year my health really got into the way of my academics and sort of messed me up and my sophomore year GPA is much lower than it could have been so I’m not really sure. Do you think this would be good enough?
For U Pitt??? Definitely! U Pitt isn’t as competitive as you probably think. They don’t report average UW GPA but the average admitted weighted is 3.97. You have around a 4ish I believe. So you GPA is right about average. You have nice medical shadowings and a ridiculous amount of service hours. If anything you should bump up your ACT score a point. The average is 29. Overall I think it’s a match/low match for you. You have a good chance but it’s not quite a safety, good luck
@onceuponamom do you mean her specific GPA or the schools? If you mean hers, I used .5 for honors, 1 point bonus for AP. Just do the math, if you mean the school, I thought it was a bit of a stretch myself but that’s what they reported :-/
I’m confused – did I compute the OP’s GPA wrong? I didn’t weight the GPA, colleges don’t want to see weighted GPA. They prefer to see it UW. OP’s GPA is about a 3.5 which is in no way bad, especially for Pitt. Seeing as how your current GPA is 3.5, 3.4 isn’t that low for sophomore year. You can always see if GC will explain your tumultuous sophomore year or you can talk about an experience you had during sophomore year to partly explain the grades etc. Either way, you’re fine and in range I believe.
28 ACT and 3.5 GPA are pretty much on target with each other imo. Get both up a little though of course.
