Gpa help, really want to transfer.

Hello! So I was looking to transfer mid year this year (2016 spring), however I don’t know if that is possible anymore. Here is my situation.

In Highschool I graduated in high honors, with a 3.5 GPA. I elected to go to community college because I was going through a lot at the time. First semester I took 4 classes, and recieved an A, B+, B and D. The D was from precalculus, which I had 2 tutors for and went to all the office hours, it simply wouldn’t click. So spring semester came and I hit a bad bought of depression. I took 4 classes again and managed to pull an A, two Bs, but forgot to withdraw from my psychology class and recieved an F. I know, stupid. So I retook that class as a summer semester and was receiving a 97, but I wrote down the wrong date for the term paper and it was 30 percent of the class, the jury is still out on if I can pass.
Currently my cumulative gpa is a 2.7, but with another F it will go down to a 2.3. Is there any way to get it up to a 3.0 by December? And will I not get into a school because of these three bad grades? Thank you in advance.

Try to make up all your bad grades, if you can’t maybe try academic renewal. Where are you interested in going?

I’m interested in going to either Stockton University in NJ, Monclair in NJ, or Savannah college of art and design in GA. I plan on getting my bachelor of Art in a photography concentration, a minor in psychology, then moving on to get my masters in social work. Again, it’s not like the classes were hard. I just didn’t have the motivation or concentration to get into it spring semester, and made a major error this time.

Good luck with your future schools
At my school at least, to take a class a third time you have to petition it. I suppose as long as you pass it then it’s okay. If you don’t really need that class then maybe try academic renewal.

You seem very capable though of high grades, but depending on your units and F’s A’s and B’s will only slighlty bump it up. Maybe try playing with a GPA calculator and see where you’d stand in December.

Your CC should have a Transfer Advisor. Make an appointment with that person, and talk about strategies for reaching your goals.

Thank you! What exactly is academic renewal? My cc isn’t the best with helping students understand everything. Could I request an I grade for the current class or is that not an option?

I’m unsure about requesting an I grade since I don’t have experience with that, so I don’t know which would appear better when you transfer. Here’s some explanation about academic renewal:

If you retake and pass classes you failed some universities will omit the F from your gpa.
