Hey Im a freshman at University of Delaware (political science major) and Im interested in transferring out. I was doing really well in all my classes, A's across the board but I screwed up in my geology class and now Im probably gonna end up with a 3.5-3.7 GPA because of it.
My highschool grades are only ok, somewhere around a 3.2 and my SAT scores were like an 1800. I have really good extra curiculars though both in high school and college, I interned on the Delaware senate race this semester and im heavily involved in College Democrat activities along with being assistant producer and researcher for a political radio show at my schools radio station. I had wanted to apply to some top notch schools but if i end up with a 3.5-3.7 is there really any point especially because University of Delaware isn't that academically prestigious? My list when my gpa was higher was:
Brown
Columbia
Cornell
Wesleyan
NYU-Gallatin
Bard
Fordham
Syracuse
Colgate

I’m in the same boat. I’m still going to apply. I’m going to rely on essay as the main factor of why they should accept me.

Are you applying for financial aid? I believe that many of those schools discriminate against transfer students who apply for FA.

You would have a much better chance at the highly selective schools after 2 years and an SAT retake. Fordham, Bard and Syracuse look worth a shot now.

Im not applying for financial aid, I’m fortunate enough that my family is well off.

If I apply now and don’t get in will that hurt my chances of applying a year later?
