Guys and girls from JCs, how does your JC calculate your final GPA? What kinds of documents do you need to sumbit for high school academics? Prelim and predicted A lvl results, or we must also include common tests, promos etc? What about O level and before?

I am in JC2, applying to a state school that requires GPA for scholarship purpose. The school advised me to have my transcripts evaluated by World Education Services. So, I sent my official O Level score to WES (they only give recognition to official O/A level scores). WES equated O Level to completion of US high school diploma. If you have straight A1s they will give you GPA A (4.00). I’m not sure about A Level though, heard someone said they will give college credits, something like AP.

Edit: oh, my JC does not calculate GPA nor class rank, only percentile ranking for individual subjects.

Hi, I had Alevels too just like you guys. I started my admission application 1-2 years ago and got my admission outcome 5 months ago, I will be entering a US uni in a month’s time. I’ve applied to a couple of unis, thus I have encountered different types of requirements. Foremost, I would like to explain that there are two main types of application (depending on which the school uses) - Firstly, is through common app which most ivy leagues use. In most cases, other than the common questions that you have to fill up for all common app schools, there is an additional form that a school may have for you to fill up (usually the entrance essay topic is provided in this column). The second type is directly through an online admission form that can be found on the school’s admission page. In both cases, they will ask you to provide your grades (some require you to also post your results to the school during the admission process, others require you to post AFTER acceptance). For common app, just fill up your Olevel and Alevel grades at the appropriate sections, there’s an option for you to choose the type of grading (either A1/A2/B3/etc. or A/B/C respectively), if you read all the instructions given carefully, there shouldn’t be any worries about completing the common app form. Don’t be afraid/worried if a large part of the form for the school history/grades is not filled up because it is not relevant to you. Now, for some schools that have their own admission forms, they will also require you to fill up your grades, most schools understand that students (international) may have taken GCE O-level/A-level and probably have an option for grade input. Some will just take it as it is, while others may be a little troublesome such as the University of Pittsburgh which was one of my safety schools, these schools require you to have your A-level results evaluated by an agency that they recognise (it is always specified which list of agencies can be approached for evaluation for that school). Just do as told, but take note to start early as it is unpredictable how long these agencies will take. Ok, to answer one of your queries about what examination results to input (especially for commonapp)…For me, I only input my secondary 3 and secondary 4 school results as well as Olevel results. For JC, I only included my Alevel results since I did badly for all my school-based examinations (Guess this is most often the case for most ppl as the moderation for JC school examinations make your school report slip pale badly in comparison to your actual Alevel grades). hahaha… Do let me know if you have any other queries.
