GPA Killers

Sorry for so many questions!

As an enrolled student at Bryn Mawr, I am aware of the heavy workload given. I believe that I’m up to the challenge, but I’ve heard stories of most students finishing their freshman year with 2.5s. Of course, I also heard that 2/3 of the class pull that up to at least a 3.4 by graduation, but for me, that would be too late.

I chose BMC on the hopes that I would grab a foreign language Air Force ROTC scholarship. And I have to get really good grades my first semester before they will consider giving me the money needed. If I don’t get the grades, I don’t get the scholarship, and I have to transfer at the end of the year. I do NOT want that to happen. I know that there are no easy classes, but what kind of programs should I avoid for fear of failing? Do you feel the free tutoring really works? Does staying after with the teacher really help? I’m going to at least major in Russian (have to for the scholarship), but I was also hoping to double in Economics or Architecture. With the classes they would need, would that be a bad idea? I absolutely love Bryn Mawr. I don’t want to stay in this state. :(

There aren’t a lot of people on this board, but I hope I get some answers.

I sent you a PM.

@bar!um: is it true that in the frshmen year, students end up with a 2.5 GPA?

Not as far as I know. I would honestly be surprised if the median freshmen GPA was lower than 3.3. I found Haverford’s grading policies to be similar to Bryn Mawr’s, and Haverford says the following about their grades:

[Grading, American Style](http://www.haverford.edu/deans/internationalstudents/files/grading.pdf)

(the publication is intended for international students, but the statistics reflect the entire student body.)

That statement is really helpful! Here’s hoping to be one of the “average”.
