GPA/MCAT requirements

I am a junior with current GPA 3.27 (Science 3.13, 49 credit hours for science out of a total 59). I need advice how much improvement I need in GPA to get into MD or MD/Ph.D. program considering I score 36 plus in MCAT. My last semester grades were B+, A-, A-, A.

Also, I need advice if admission committee recognizes whether your grades are from an Ivy League school or other not so high rated schools.

With a 3.27 chances are you will not be scoring 36+ on the MCAT, no offense but it is the truth. Before you even worry about that you need to focus on your grades and not touch the MCAT until you have at least a 3.4. If you want advice on your grades you need to give us more info about yourself, what you do, if you work, etc.

Adcoms do recognize to a LIMITED extent where you went to and what that means for your grades. No Ivy league education is going to get a 3.13 forgiven though (which is not to imply that it isn’t possible to get accepted with such a score, only that it will count against you).

It is very hard to score 36+ even for someone with perfect GPA, got to have some luck. It is possible, but exceptionally rare to score 36+ with GPA 3.27

Did you take practice tests to estimate your MCAT? It does not happen all time but on average actual score is about couple points below best practice score.

Successful M.D./Ph.D. applicants, specifically, usually have 3.8/36+ qualifications along with four years of research experience. You should aim for an A/A- average for the remainder of your college career with the hope of raising your GPA above 3.5. Sitting for the MCAT after your senior year is always a possibility if you are open to suggestion of taking a gap year after college.
