gpa problems

when colleges look at your gpa, do they look at what classes you took compared to other people whose gpas are higher??
i am a sophomore and rank 7/52...but the 6 ppl. ahead of me do not take any aps, ( i took 2), and some dont even take honors...do colleges see this or not?

yeah. on the guidance counselor recommendation form there's a little checkbox that tells the colleges how rigorous your courseload is compared to other students. you want to shoot for "most rigorous courseload available"

Does your school have GPA weighting?

yes...honors is 1.05 i think, and ap is 1.075 or smt. really little, but it hurts most of the students who take it...b/c the "easy" courses are wayyy easier...

man, my school weights honors and aps the same, a half a letter grade increase.

most of the kids who take aps are at the top because the way the classes are weighted (not exactly sure how much). a kid switched from ap to regular, so he dropped 5 ranks.
