What GPA does the college like UC and USC or other look at when applying to transfer?
I want to transfer for fall 2017, does that mean when I apply they’re only considering the GPA I have currently on fall 2016 even before the fall semester is complete? What about spring?
Help! Thanks!
They’ll look up to the fall semester before transferring. Spring grades won’t affect admission, but you’ll need to maintain a certain GPA.
Right now I have a GPA of 3.5 (but can be raised higher to 3.7), I want to try and apply to UCLA for sociology or communications, USC for communication, etc. etc.
I work part time, helped my mother battle with depression and work place harassment during my second semester so I struggled a bit there, and I co-founded a movie podcast that has a good following on youtube and twitter. I am planning to do much more.
I am just really concerned about my GPA. If I can raise it during the fall semester of applying (fall 2016) will that fall be considered? Your news was music to my ears but is this for both USC and the UCs? How about colleges in general?
I’d imagine all schools would look at your fall grades after you apply. UCs do for sure, USC likely does too.
At USC the average GPA admitted is 3.7. If I remember correctly they do not admit by major, but I could be wrong. If you manage to raise your GPA to a 3.7 then you would probably be competitive.
UCLA admits by major, so you would have to decide between Sociology or Communications. The 25th - 75th percentiles for Sociology was 3.57 - 3.87 while for Communications was 3.9 - 4.0. Communications would be more difficult to transfer as.
Also, for the UCs they look at grade trends and where you are transferring from. If your grades improve every semester it will help a bit. If you are currently at a Community College then you will be given priority for UCs when transferring. I’m not sure if USC does the same. For your essay you can explain your situation a bit.
