I know GPA is not every, but I am quite concerned. I am a sophmore, very interested in some top schools (YES I KNOW IM ONLY A SOPHMORE). The problem is that for my freshman FIRST TERM I had a D, 3 C's, and a B. This was when I had the whole wrong attitude and when I did not care about college. Well, lucklily I picked up quick and I fininsh the second term of freshman year with around a 95uw average. My first term of 10th grade was around 94. If I consistantly continue to take AP classes (I am taking AP Bio and AP World History) and recieve 96/97.??uw averages, and my cumulative GPA is around 92+uw to 93+uw, where do I stand. My weighted average will definately be 96+ to 97+ and I will most likely rank in the top ten people of 450 or probably top five people. Did I f**** up my chances, even if my SATI, SATIIs, and ECs are nice ? How does ivy-league schools see this (excluding Princeton, who doesn't calculate freshman GPA) and how forgiving are they for a first-term scew up (BAD ONE)? Thanks guys

???????????? .

it certainly didnt help but i think as long as you continue to improve and do everythign you say you will it should be no problem, guidance counselors are good at explaining away problematic terms or even years... = P

Great.. thanks
I would appreciate anyone who comments.. especially from experience.

Dude you're on that stupid 100 point scale like me. I have like a 93 unweighted or something. 111 weighted with all my PreAP's.

Dude u think ure top 5-10 /400 with 3 c's and a D? what school do u go to bc i would be #1

Dude, I'm going to that school!

Since you showed improvement, you're fine.

yea good thing u picked up quick. A friend of mine screwed up freshmen and sophmore year and finally realized that he wanted to go to John's Hopkins at the beginning of Junior year. He picked up his grades but unfortunately he ain't going to John's Hopkins.

Yeah.. that kinda sux

Btw, my school is PRETTY TERRIBLE, but I try to make the best of it :) lol

Thanks for the encouragement!

My honest opinion... the only place where that may hurt you would prob. be if your applying to an Ivy, such as Harvard or Yale. I don't want to sound harsh, but it prob. hurt your app 10-20% at any BIG ivy's. But what you failed to tell us were your EC's or legacy status. I wouldn't set your heart on only the IVY's, there are many other GREAT schools that are slightly less selective, and would be more forgiving, such as Colgate, Villanova, Holy Cross, and a slight reach for NYU, but then again, your only a soph. SAT scores may push you into the lesser IVY's, like Cornell or UPenn, but I'm talking about 2400's and stellar EC's (National Merit, Intel Semifinalist or equiv.) The reason I am a bit pessimistic is that the applicant pool for the ivy's is EXTREMELY SELECTIVE, even for the brightest student, and adcoms tend to focus more on your weak points that your positives.

Bottom Line:
Stop worring, Do your best, and ENJOY H.S., STOP STRESSING ABOUT GRADES...

Thanks. I understand what you are saying. I wouldn't have any legacy status, however I will certainly try for that Intel Semi-finalist, which I will be working on starting in the summer. As far as my ECs, I plan to be president of my school, win some awards, MANY volunteer hours, summer research, etc.
