GPA question

recently i got an B+ in math
i know this isn't a big deal
but do colleges really look in deep at what classes you received a lower grade in?
for example, i wan't to apply to a college that really emphasizes math, if I get A's/5/800 in math next year and on the AP or SAT's, would they overlook this B+ in my sophmore

Nothing is going to be overlooked or ignored. Applications (at the colleges about which I assume you are talking) are evaluated holistically.
One B, though, on an otherwise “perfect” application, will probably not matter.

There’s a high possibility they will if you end up applying to schools like MIT and Caltech, where the math and science grades are extremely important.

ahh actually it might be an A-
but i was wondering if specific colleges look at specific classes and would getting a B in that class where they really emphasize would kill you?
for example, i if got a B in art instead of a B in math, would it be better?
thanks for your replies :)

It wouldn’t be “better” per se, but if you are planning to major in engineering or something, it would be “less” worse than a B in math.

mm but what if i get 800’s on my SAT or SAT2’s? and an A next yearr

I think if it’s a B+ in a difficult math class (honors/AP level, or you skipped a grade in math) then it will be okay for you, especially if you get A’s next year and 5/800 like you said. And if it turns out to be an A-, I don’t think you have anything to worry about.

okk thanks!!
anymore feedback?!
i really appreciate you guyss for taking the time to respond!!

It does matter what class you get the B+ in, yes. If you apply to MIT with a B+ in your AP Studio Art class, they aren’t going to care in the slightest. A single B+ in math certainly isn’t going to destroy your chances, but you ARE going to be competing against people who got an A in every math course they took.

If you get B your life over and you will live in a box forever.

hahahahaa sorry guys
I’m just wonderingg :/

Nah, if you have an upward trend after this it really won’t matter. Don’t listen to the people on here.
