GPA Questions

My school calculates gpa really weird...on an 8 point scale on which when weighted, you could have a possible 8.5.

But i need to fill out forms for recruitment to schools which ask for your gpa out of 4. How could i calculate my own gpa out of 4? I am a junior now so i have my 3 years worth of grades

Is it a scale like
A+ = 4
A = 3.5
B+ = 3
etc

Just a troll.

my school doesn't give minuses in grades - its just A+,A,B+,B....etc

so how do u calculate a gpa out of 4 when u have all your grades for fresh, soph, and junior year - so aps and honors classes help in terms of a gpa out of 4 or is it ocmpletly unweighted

anyone?????

is it different for different colleges?

if so, how do the ivys calculate gpa

I don't think different school uses different ways to calculate grade on a 4.0 scale.
On 4.0 scale

A - 4
B - 3
C - 2
D - 1

There may be schools that may have +/- and compute these differently but the above 4 will always be constant on 4.0 scale unless your school is from an alien planet.
You can fit +/- as follows

A- - 3.7
A+ - 4.3
B+ - 3.3
B- - 2.7

or so on.
All Colleges will recompute your GPA on a 4.0 scale and your GPA gets standardized across the board.

So just forget about your School GPA do the following:

Calculate the following on 4.0 Scale removing +/-

Full High School GPA - All Academic Courses on your transcript

Junior/Senior Year GPA - All Academic Courses on your transcript from 11th and 12th grades.

3 year GPA - All Academic Courses on your transcript from Sophomore year (10th grade).

That is what most colleges will see along with your School Profile (which will indicates strength of the curriclumn).

but if i were to calculate it how would i do so

if i have an A+ in an ap class it is a 4 and if i have an A it is also a 4?

and if i have a b+ in an ap class it's just a B in terms of gpa?

my school doesnt have minuses but has pluses and all my grades are b+, a, or a+ and all the b+s i have thus far are only in honors/ap classes

Yes, an A+/A/A- will become 4.0 on a 4.0 scale at most schools at the time of admissions.
Compute your GPA according to that and then look at your GPA on the transcript and school profile to compute how it will look at the admission process.

Assume your GPA on Transcript is 4.6 whatever way your school calculated.
Your school profile said that the mean GPA using the same technique is 4.2.

You recalculated your GPA at 4.0 scale as I conveyed before and found your GPA to be 3.93. Then your school mean GPA will become 3.59.

These two numbers will be seen by the college admission officers. Now if a Student from your school state on the application that he ranks in top 10 % even though the school don't rank and student GPA recomputes on 4.0 scale to 3.75 then school will doubt that the student is in the top decile.
