GPA Questions

Is it true that colleges calculate one’s GPA based solely off an A=4.0,B=3.0,C=2.0, etc system and not off an A+,A,A-,B+ etc system? For example, if I were to get an A- in my school, a college would count it as 4.0? (My school counts an A- as a 3.67.) I’ve heard that colleges do this because so many schools have different grading policies (some have A+, some don’t, etc).

What’s around the average Ivy applicant’s unweighted GPA? 3.7? 3.8?

Thanks!

Depends on the college as far as the +s and -s go.

and also, do colleges see one's weighted gpa?

I have no clue about the way colleges calculate GPAs, but my school does it really differently. We don't have weighted GPAs and 90+ is an A+, but is only a 3.6. So our top GPA for this year is 3.72, which is why I guess rank also plays a part. It probably depends on the college.

I'm pretty sure colleges see the weight GPA, if it's official. The guidance counselor fills it out on the Common App - weighted and unweighted.
