I've heard that several colleges recalculate GPA's. I have a 4.0 based off of my school's scale where 90-100 = A. I'm pretty sure I had 93+ in all the classes I've taken [since some schools do 93-100 = A], but I think I've gotten a 91 before. If a college recalculates it, will they put me as like a 3.97 or something instead of the 4.0? I simply chose not to do extra-credit, sucking up, etc etc to get "high A's" because I figured there was no need.

Also, my GC told me that on my transcript they only put the letter grade. Will a college be able to request for specific class grades if they wish to? Lastly, do most schools recalculate on the 90-100 scale or the 93-100 scale, or somewhere in between?

A 3.97 UW is essentially as good as a 4.0. Colleges aren’t looking for perfectionists, just intelligence and good work ethic. But what is a bit worrisome to me is not you but your school. If your school is a place where you can easily pad your grades through extra-credit (???) and sucking up then your class rank might be relatively low if your school calculates one. It also might indicate that your school doesn’t adequately prepare you for the SAT.

Yeah, you’re spot on. I’m 1st in my class but our school’s average SAT score is like 950/1600. The person who’s #2 in our class got a 1480/2400 on her SAT’s. I haven’t taken mine yet[october], but I study for everything on my own.

The recalculating is usually for the weighted classes (Honors, APs, IBs). In our school system you get 5 points for Honor A’s and 6 for AP/IB and dual enrollment (college classes while you are in HS). Also you get extra points for taking extra classes in the summer. So there are GPAs of 6 or 7 point something on a 4 point scale. UF, for example, doesn’t count all the classes you took and they use their own weighting system, so their recalculated GPA is not remotely similar to your HS one.
