Hi, I’m a student (currently on medical leave) in a 4yr college considering transferring to another 4yr institution.
The major reason of this is that I did terribly in my 2nd year courses due to personal conflicts, and now reflecting myself while on leave, I realized that I wouldn’t recover my cumulative GPA however hard I study upon the return. Since my college do not allow me to retake courses to make up the GPA, the only way for me to boost GPA without taking extra units/years in the college seemed to be transferring to a new university.
However, before that I want to make sure that when I transfer and retake courses of the same level that I did badly last year, and get good grades this time, if any of my past GPA(cumulative) or grades from the courses remain in my official transcripts in the future.
Does anyone know this from their experience or knowledge about University GPA systems? Thanks so much!
Your new school may not include grades from the old school in its GPA for you, but graduate and professional schools and employers that want to see your college record will ask for records from all colleges attended.
Some colleges do put old grades on their transcripts. Some don’t. You need to ask each of the places on your target list about this.
Would you need to retake the courses with the bad grades because you failed them and they are required for your major? If not, why do you want to retake them? That will add extra time onto what it might otherwise require to finish your degree.
Just how bad are these grades anyway?
