GPA Rounding

I have a GPA of 4.2888, but it would obviously look better as a 4.3. Is it okay to round your gpa on your common app?

What’s on your transcript?

I think the 4.2888

Then use that. Don’t round.

Do you think that not having a 4.3 but having a 4.2888 will affect me when applying?

I think adcoms are smart enough to look at it as a 4.3. You’ll be fine

!) Seriously – a difference of 0112 in GPA is insignificant.
2) Colleges will see your official transcript so will notice any excess rounding you do. If you have room to write the GPA presented on your transcript then do so, otherwise round as little as possible (ex. if there are three spots use 4.29 not 4.3).

I’m not sure if this is strictly necessary, but with GPA I always truncate rather than rounding up, so 4.2888 would become 4.2, 4.28, or 4.288.

In any case, this looks like a weighted GPA and they probably won’t care much about it anyway because every high school weights grades differently.

Bingo. Few colleges will look at weighted GPA because there is no common standard, so they will either look at unweighted or weight according to their standards. If the 4.2888 is UW because the school assigns a 4.3 for A+, the college will probably still reweighs, since most HS’s don’t have A+. In any event, no, you cannot round.
