I have a 4.4 weighted GPA (as calculated by my school and appearing on my transcript) but my guidance counselor told me that the school does not have a "scale."

The CommonApp won't save my info unless I fill in the "scale" box from the dropdown menu?

It seems that to say it’s out of 5 makes it look less impressive than it really is because you can’t have a 5.0 (unless you took ONLY AP courses which you can’t).

Theoretically the scale should be calculated for each student’s schedule and should be the highest possible GPA she would have if she had gotten an A in every class, right?

There are not 2 different scales for weighted and unweighted that is why those terms are used. If there were 2 different scales we wouldn’t need to use the terms. Weighted (means weighted for the AP and honors courses) so it is a 4.4 on a 4.0 scale.

I’d put out of 5. At my school we have weighted grades with the top of our class around 4-4.6, no one can really reach a 5 because it involves all AP and honors courses when we need certain electives to graduate. Even though we can’t achieve a 5, I was told by my counselor to put down it was out of 5. You probably have the same system since you can get credit up to a 5 even if it is impossible to achieve a 5.0
