GPA & Scholarships

Will D1 or D1AA colleges accept students with an average gpa, such as a 2.2-2.4 core and a 2.6-2.7 overall? My son is a very good athlete and a great kid, but falls in the average gpa range. His gpa is weighted because he takes honors courses in English, history, & science. Without the weight given in his honors courses, his gpa would be lower. He likes honors classes because they are more challenging & will better prepare him for college. He has ADD w/ a mild learning disability which impacts his ability to perform in the classroom. He also does not test very well so taking an SAT prep course will be critical to his success.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

It depends on the school and the sport. The NCAA ([The Official Web Site of the NCAA - NCAA.org - NCAA.org](http://www.ncaa.org)) sets minimum requirements to be eligible to receive a scholaship and to play (which can be found on the link above) … these requirements are a blend of GPA and test scores (SAT/ACT) … and to be honest the standards are very liberal. Schools often have standards tougher than the NCAA standards … so it’s all about the school and sport in which the applicant is interested.
