Sorry guys,I know it's quite an old topic, but it really tortures me!!! Here is the thing, I applied as a rising sophomore this fall(international transfer+major change) and so far I've got nothing but rej... I'm wondering whether it's due to my poor gpa in freshman year.

I had outstanding gpa, rank(top1%) and honor student awards in HS, but back then I never considered applying to universities in the US,so I wound up entering one of the most reputated university in my hometown. Once I got into the university I found out that the school(mostly the education system in my country) wasn't fit for me at all, and I screwed my first year totally(though very few credits).

I spend most of the time doing NGO programs, internships, and other EC activities, then I considered transfering to the US. I took only one time SAT,SAT2 and toefl last year and got just-ok scores( CR+MATH 1530,Toefl 105+,SAT suject test1600). Now I'm extremely worried cause people keep telling me that the only thing the AO would look is my college gpa no matter I'm applying for sophomore or junior transfer!!!!

I'm losing confidence day by day, I just feel upset that my only one year spent in college would play such a big role in transfering.Anyone give me some advice? Should I give up? UIUC, PSU and Umich already rejected me,I think I may end up with no AD at all.
