B-U-M-P Bump

have you already taken the SAT or are you betting on scoring 2250+ your first time? i know you said that practice tests indicate you getting 2250+, but if god forbid you mess up when you take it, you kind of put yourself in a tough spot.

If I mess up, then I just retake it on the November date…

Or if need be, apply regular decision and take it in December.

nosike:

the issue is that your SAT test date is Oct 9, which means scores may not even be available by the time that the ED app is due on November 1. Thus, you could be submitting the common app blind. Furthermore, Duke also requires subject tests, which you will have to take in Nov. But, you might need to save Nov for a retake of the SAT instead (if the scores are not what you need/expect).

Redroses: the OP did mention that he was black in his first post. He also mentions he goes to school in Canada, so likely an International; if so, definitely not AA.

CC is littered with students who “expect” 2300 on the SATs. Show me the money. I guess I’m like redroses.

@bluebayou

October SAT results come out on the 24th of October, so yes I will see them before I send them anywhere.

Duke’s website specifically says that they receive November SAT testing in time to be used in the admissions process.

I’m going to go in there and get the best score I can barring some kind of illness or something. I personally don’t even believe in test retakes, and don’t think people should be allowed to write the SAT more than once at all.

Fortunately, test retakes are allowed. For the unfortunate few who become ill, break an ankle in a soccer game the day before, or have auto troubles on the way, second and third chances are provided.

Do you have multiple subject test scores already?

^^^ No I do not, I live outside of America and my guidance counselor put me under the impression last year that only seniors could take SATs. I only discovered that was false after the deadline for the June SAT passed.

Oh, that is a shame. Do you have the SATII Subject tests scheduled soon?

October: SAT I
November: Math II, Chem

Sign up for the ACT also. You want a couple of swings at bat and you can’t take both SAT1 and SAT2 on the same day if you need an SAT retake. ACT is offered different days. ACT is less coachable, so preparation matters less. Just get familiar with it the week before. There is nothing to lose but 3.5 hours and the test fee.

^ Yes, and note that Duke doesn’t require SAT IIs if you submit ACT w/ writing, unless you’re applying to Pratt, in which case you must submit an SAT II Math.

Edit to add: You’re past the deadline for the 10/23 ACT, but you can late register with an extra fee until 10/1.

Good luck.

Oh btw I don’t know how many people from my school go to Ivys.

Last year though, this guy got accepted to Princeton but didn’t go because he didn’t get enough FA. Went to the University of Calgary instead :(
