GPA too low for WUSTL ED?

I will have a 3.55 GPA after junior year, senior year first semester, I will have a 3.6 UW, 4.7 W.
Is this too low for WUSTL?

Well, some applicants with 4.0’s get rejected
Do you have a hook? How are your EC’s, essays, recs, etc.?

GPA is just one number. Without context, it is not terribly informative of your chances to gain entry into any school.

Can you gain admission into WUSTL with a 3.6 GPA? Yes, it is certainly possible.

GPA is just one factor. Give us more and we can better chance for. Good luck anyway.

Chance me?

Ok let’s see…um this is what I have so far:

 • I have been doing research at a local lab in my city since after 8th grade. The CEO respects me.
 • I am a Muslim, so my ec’s also include preaching, holding interfaith debates in my neighbhorhood and school about the misconceptions about jihad and terrorism and treatment of woman ( if your interested, PM me  ) several appraisals at my talks which I have conducted for nonmuslims. I’ve attended national islamic peace conferences in India and the US ( ISNA in DC and CAIR public relations conference, among others). I’ve written a book on the effect of Arabian Scholars on the renassiance and the advancement of science in Europe.
 • Qualified for USABO semis, hopefully go to the the final USABO championship. Siemens Semifinalist for 2010, sanofi-aventis BioGENEious challenge semifinalist. Other local science competitions.
 • fundraising club- fundraised for about every single thing that you could think of ( Chilean, Haiti, and now japan earthquakes, as well as other club’s interests)
 • the only limiting factor of my app is transcript and gpa.

interesting EC’s - could be impressive with well constructed essays (although I believe Wash U requires no essays beyond just the common ap basics) they may need to be flushed out better to see how much weekly time you are committing to these activities (they want to see a constructive use of time throughout HS and summers).

Are we doing this by drips and drabs? How bout your standardized test scores? ACT’s, SATs, SATII’s, AP tests, whats the rigor of your curriculum? The rigor of your HS is also very important to how your GPA is considered. Do you need financial aid (WashU is not need blind, so not requiring financial aid can improve your chances). Have you visited the campus (they weight interest heavily). Its very difficult to assess chances even with all the information you can provide here, but with only a couple of the relevant facts, it is not possible to assess your chances.

Act: 34
Sat: 2250
Sat 2: Bio mech 800, 780 spanish
Math 2 770
A higly cometitive public school in Maryland that offers IB, didn’t do IB but I did do APUSH in 10th, then Art History in summer, then 6 AP’s in junior year. 9 APs overall. 5,5,5,5,5,5,5,4,4

See, there you go. You took an unlikely 3.6 GPA and packaged it with all your other data to present a much improved case for positive admission outcome. Particularly well written essays along with a college visit (even better if no financial aid is needed) and you are a legitimate hopeful for Wash U. Good luck@

Thanks! I’m not applying for Financial Aid at ALL and I’m planning a visit this spring and another this summer, with my own money.
