gpa/units question

I have two questions and I was hoping someone could answer them for me, I suspect the answers are pretty straightforward I just happen to be ignorant on the subject matter :-P

1) I will (hopefully) be transferring from a community college to a UC after having completed the IGETC this semester, to start working on my Bachelors. My question is, does my gpa start over? Like if I leave CC with a 3.9 when I get to UC "___" and start working on my English major requirements does it start over like when you move from HS to CC?

2) I've been noticing that the stats aren't so great so far as far as admissions go and so I am kind of freaking out. I've made up my mind though that if I don't get accepted anywhere, and since I'll have to wait one more year that I would like to change my major from English to Biology in the hopes of becoming Pre-med. This of course would mean that I would have to do all of the prerequisites to transfer as Bio major, and so I would probably end up applying next fall with more units. I will have 62 units by the end of this semester, do you think it will hurt my chances having around 80 in total by the time I apply again? And since I would have to apply by next fall I'm not sure I'd have all of the Bio requirements done in time so I would have to fill them in on the app as Planned of course, how will this affect me?

Thanks in advanced, I really appreciate any help you guys can give me. :)

I can help you on the first question, not so much on the second. Your gpa will start over. That pretty gpa you had in cc will have to be earned again at UC.

I know that anything over 70 units does not transfer but you will still get credit for fulfilling the requirements. So i'm assuming if you're over 70, it will fulfill your pre req requirement but you will not take those earned units with you to UC. I'm not 100% sure on how this works so maybe someone else can help clarify.

Your GPA starts over at the school you transfer to, but, if you go to graduate school, they still factor in your CC GPA. For instance, let's say you get a 3.9 at CC, transfer to Cal, and then get a 3.6 at Cal, and take exactly 65 units at each school. Graduate schools will look at your GPA as 3.75 (not accounting for minor alterations in accounting for pluses and minuses).

As for your second question, I think that it shouldn't hurt you much, but I have heard mixed things about whether or not it does any harm to your application. You should ask a counselor.

oh ok thanks for the help :D
