i got really bad GPA....

so im wondering..... most colleges count on GPA more or EC?

Yes, colleges always look at GPA over ECs and good EC cannot make up for poor grades..

If you have a bad GPA and good EC's schools will think that you need reprioritize, cut back on your ECs and put more effort into your grades.

well i got like 3.0 on my GPA... and i'll be Senior next year..
if i show my improvement next semester.. does it help? how much does it help?

are there ani suggestion?
i want to go to UIUC engineering....

Well - it all depends on your response to the question: WHY is your GPA so low? Although many ECs are certainly more entertaining and rewarding than school, colleges will wonder how such a hard working person (demonstrated by ECs) would have such a low GPA.

Unfortunately, I don't see a compelling answer.

thank you fhimas888888888888....

however... i want to know if there r ways tat i can make myself get into better schools.

It is hard to make any conclusive decision unless you post more information on your GPA (classes, grades, ect.) and EC's( years in EC, positions). Without any of that it makes it hard to help you.

well GPA... unless!!!! your EC contains something along the lines of.... cured cancer.. now that would be a different story.

If you've done something super spectacular in your EC, i'm sure they would have your EC cover your GPA

What are your SATs?

4.0 UW/almost 5.0 W with average ECs vs. 3.5 UW/slightly above 4.0 W with amazing ECs.

A more specific scenario? Anyone know which would "win"? XD

neither, the person with a 4.0 uw/almost 5.0 with AMAZING ECs would win lol

For that scenario I would guess for large public schools definitely the 4.0UW/average ECs would get in (if not both), but for small LAC probably the 3.5UW/amazing ECs because they tend to look at individual cases and not just hte numbers

Public schools and LACs are totally different though

Public schools (at least UT) practically only uses class rank and GPA.

The thing though is that I'm sure the person with more/better ECs more than likely would be applying to a LAC or private school before they applied to a public school, I'm sure. I would at least.

Give your class rank and list your ECs, and also they type of school you want to attend. We can give more specific answers to those.

list of ECs AND awards - unfortunately for many, no one cares if you were a member of the chess club, international club, environmental club, french club, chinese club, and spanish club - anyone can just SHOW UP for these kinds of things. Show us (clear throat, everyone leans forward)

PASSION!

(audience takes deep breath in awe, one faints)
