Which is weighted more and can one make up for the other? I ask because I'm applying to W&M and NYU and I have a 32 ACT but a 3.6W gpa. GPA seems more indicative of hard work whereas test scores show more aptitude. Would it be better to have a 32 ACT and a 3.3UW gpa or a 28 ACT and a 3.7UW gpa?

also i have taken all honors and 9 aps and does that also mitigate my bad gpa?

Generally, GPA trumps test scores.

And, IMO, it should. A lot of getting through college–and life–is more a matter of perseverance than a matter of aptitude.

Believe it or not but both scores are in the top 10% of test takers… With a hook: URM / others low gpa might work but with a high gpa and 90 percentile + test score seems better. I don’t really know because i’m not an admissions officer… But many people with a 28 get accepted to ivy league schools or comparable. Just try to work hard this year and show an increase in work ethic
