GPA vs Grade on 100% Scale

My school has a very odd GPA system where 100% = 4.0, 99% = 3.9, etc. My grades in each class are high but it seems much lower on the gpa compared to schools who have an A as a 4.0. Will colleges look at both? My transcript has both but I’m not sure if they look at one more than the other.

Along with each transcript, your high school sends a school profile which explains things like the grading system, classes offered by the school etc. so the college will look at your GPA in the proper context.

I think you may not understand your GPA system. A 1% decrement to a tenth of a GPA point would mean anything below an 80% is below a 2.0. In that case you either have a bunch of people with bad grades or massive grade inflation.

But @happy1‌ is right that your transcript is looked at with your HS profile. Your grades will also be reviewed with your course rigor and class rank. A top 5% class rank with a 3.65 still means a great deal.

@ErinsDad‌ I don’t think the grading scale above is terribly out of whack. An 80 average in most high schools would equate to a B- which would be a 2.67.
