I know for sophomore transfers high school record is still important, along with SAT's, but can a stellar first semester GPA diminish the weight that is put on high school credentials? I am under the impression that if you can prove to a transfer college that you can do well as a college student, they will take this more seriously than high school grades.

that's what i understand...the sats are all about how well you can do in college (projected). i don't think the sats are that important anymore if you have a good GPA. it's all about making sure they have the best college performers for statistics and making the college's atmosphere resemble what it wants--this is usually intellectual ;)

Right. I'm hoping that having a great gpa will in fact take weight off the SATs.

Most colleges tell you what they are thinking about that. I know I found it on all of their websites. Did you look?

The general consensus is that, if you transfer in the middle of your freshman year, the high school stats and SATs will still be important. However, if you transfer anytime after you have a full year of college OFFICALLY documented, the SATs and your High School record will have very little significance compared to your performance in College. However, if you're not already in college, be prepared to work for those "stellar" grades far more than you did in High School, it's no easy task.
