I had a GPA of 3.75ish in a private school.
My SAT score was 1590. Crappy as hell. And I got in this year.
CLASS OF 13!

There’s no guarantee on admission acceptance. However, I’d say that if you score at least 550 on both critical reading and math section respectively and your GPA is higher than 3.0. You’re considered “in”

like i said, this is anecdotal. Also, not MANY kids were rejected with above the average GPA, just more than with an above average SAT. How are you enjoying your time by the way? I visited and it was SIIIIIIICCCKKK.

Hell, I know A LOT of people got in with a GPA of 2.5-3.0. Partly, I blame Affirmative Action. Haha.
Big school. Huge classes. Great parties. A lot of campus’ involvements. Classes are moderately tough. Best public university in MD if you’re looking for an instate place to pass out at.
If you’re not from MD, College park may be a boring bloody hell. Good luck :)

i’m out of state. But the school looked absolutely amazing. The school spirit and traditions seemed to be exactly what i am looking for. I am hoping to get right into the business school, but even if i don’t, i would consider going. I liked ti that much.

DS is from OOS and does not feel it is a boring bloody hell.

You may not have huge classes if you get into honors, gemstone or scholars. The largest class DS had was Econ, the rest were all in the range 0f 30-40 and that was for his freshman yr, this yr they are even smaller. He is in scholars.

Your GPA and SAT do matter, but so does your ECs. They can overcome your low GPA if you are on a ton of sports and took all APs, they can’t when you have nothing, but school on your application. The SAT matters because it is a nationalize test, thus they are comparing apples to apples.

Finally, remember every school system has a different weighting system, if you sit there and put your uw as 3.4, people will think it is low, than when you say your weighted is 4.5, people will realize you have a lot of AP/IB’s. The kid with the 3.6 uw and a 3.8 w will be rejected over the 3.4, because they did not take the most rigorous course load, and that is a huge factor when they look at your GPA.

Come Feb, you will see stats all over the place, but in the end you need to realize it is not just the gpa it was how that gpa was determined, when you see someone with a rejection and higher stats than the person accepted.

Also, where you come from matters if you are OOS. NJ is very competitive to get in compared to SC. The reason is they want diversity, and are trying to get away from the image that everyone from OOS lives off of an exit on the NJTPKE

well what my research consisted of was all kids from my school and it went by wgpa so it did take honors and ap into account. This sample is about as controlled as it gets.
