GPA vs Transcript

Hi,
My high school only reports weighted GPA, and mine is relatively low, relative to my classmates. I generally get good grades (3.9 UW - all A’s and A-'s), and I take hard classes, but the reason I have a low weighted GPA is because I have taken a lot of music classes, which drag my weighted GPA down. Does Brown rely on your GPA to compare you, or more on your letter grades on your transcript?

It looks at your letter grades on your transcript, the rigor of your classes, and your rank.

Admissions also looks at your high school profile, which is like a rubric for understanding the grading system at your high school, the number of AP classes offered, range of GPA’s, range of test scores. etc. Many high school profiles contain a lot of specific information that helps an Admissions Officer understand the pecking order at your high school and where you fit into that mosaic. If you have’t seen your HS profile, you should ask your GC for copy. Here’s a sample profile: https://www.pingry.org/uploaded/Academics/college_counseling/pingry-class2014profile.pdf
