GPA weak, sat scores strong? UCD

Hey, I really want to go to UCD but my GPA is only a 3.23 (unweighted). My sat scores were:
700 reading
700 math
650 writing
620 Math2
and 610 Bio E

Do I stand a chance? What about at Irvine?

ahh ur about the same as me and i am freakin out tooo
can someone chance this?!?!?! :)

What’s your UC GPA? With a 3.7 or so, you’d have a shot.

Retake Math II for a higher score. There’s a point system that SD uses for admission, but I can’t find it at the moment. Davis uses a similar system. If you search the forums and find the link, enter your information and you’ll have a rough idea of your chances.

i have a 3.66 weighted and a 2180 sat 790 math2 and 680 us history i wanna major in econ
do i have a chance at davis or irvine even?

As a weighted GPA, that’s on the low end for Davis.

will my sat score and sat2’s get me in??

UCs place more importance on GPA.

Post your UC GPA.
If you don’t know it, you can calculate it:
[CaliforniaColleges.edu - Calculating Your GPA](http://www.californiacolleges.edu/admissions/california-state-university-csu/gpa_calculator.asp)

as a freshman in college this year I applied to UC Davis last year (in-state) with similar grades and test scores and didnt get in. Not just not for my major, but not even as undeclared.

3.62 weighted 2190 sat score, 750 sat 2 for math2, 710 for physics

ouch…:frowning: im scared do u think i can get into boston university?

For UCD and UCI, SAT scores in the 700-800 range are on the high end (the highest 25th percentile) That will help.

But GPA complicates things – rather than ask for a chance, you should position yourself with the percentage possibilities. Using your weighted (with honors, AP) UC GPA (10th and 11th grade), you should look at the percentages of admission for GPA range. The data I have is for the 2009 admits – at UCD, 3.0-3.29 GPA, 12 percent of 4,828 apps were admitted; 3.30-3.69 GPA, almost 33 percent of 11,187 apps. And it goes up from there. For UCI, 3.0-3.29 GPA has an admit rate of 2.1 percent of 5,894 apps and 3.3-3.69 has a 22.5 admit rate out of 12,531 apps.

But these are the numbers, and there are other factors that may come into play. At UCSD, they also give points for a variety of factors, including hardship, school quality, etc.

If your GPA is really 3.2, then UCD and UCI will each be a reach. They’re possible but not a match. However, UC Riverside and UC Santa Cruz are more of a match.

I think you’re fine for BU. Apply to UCI anyways tho.

jesus, where are you getting your information?

davis fall 2009 admit:
http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/pdf/ucd_chart.pdf

3.3 - 3.69 - 20.6%
3.0 - 3.29 - 8.3%

irvine fall 2009 admit:
http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/pdf/uci_chart.pdf

3.3 - 3.69 - 12.4%
3.0 - 3.29 - 2.3%

i find it funny davis accepts less of the 3.7gpa+

If your grades are better this year, admissions officers will be pleased by the “upwards trend.” I would totally recommend Davis, though. I went there for a convention, and they have the world’s tastiest, most natural food.

wow k those sites are really helpful thank you so much :))

Not sure why you are calling on Jesus. But thanks for the update. My stats are actually from Fall 2008. Things got tougher in 2009, but I don’t know about 10. In any case, the point is not the actual stats, but that applicants should consider the difficulty of admission and come up with a list of UCs and other schools under the reach, match, safety approach.

The UC has freshmen profiles available here:
