GPA Weight for Dual Enrollment

Hello! What scale are dual enrollment classes weighted at? I’ve heard anything from 4.25-5.00.

There is no universal standard for weighing honors, AP, or DE courses.

Some colleges recalculate weighted GPA based on their own standards (which may be different from that used by other colleges or high schools).

In some states, there may be a standardized weighted GPA calculation method used by the state colleges.

Your college GPA will most likely be on a 4.0 scale.

Do you mean how you weight it on your homeschool transcript?

There are no standards. I did AP and DE: +1, honors +0.5

Ours is an odd scale, but the ratio of Honors:DE:AP is 2:3:4. So if Honors is 4.5 and AP is 5.0, DE would be 4.75.

But as noted, it doesn’t really matter. Colleges will want to know the methodology that goes with the WGPA and will either recalculate or at least consider it in the context of the methodology.

As I’ve noted before, our school’s methodology that will result in my D having about a 5.4 by mid-Senior year doesn’t mean she’s “better” than everyone under 5.0 because that’s their school’s max.

Every high school has it’s own system. Some colleges will recalculate on their own system so as to compare apples-to-apples among the many different high school methods of weighting.

You may find weighting info for your specific high school in your student handbook or on your high school’s web page.

FWIW, our high school doesn’t weigh all DE classes, only the few it considers suitably difficult (MVC and a couple of the highest level PLTW classes). It is still kind of a bargain because it does show some rigor AND you don’t need to pay $90 & sit for an AP exam… pass the class and you’ve earned college credit. Whether or not those credits transfer to your college of choice depends on the college, of course, but our in-state colleges are bound to accept them from high schools in-state.
