Which did you put down? If you chose weighted, what did you put the maximum scale out of? (Let's say you have a 4.0UW and a 5.0/5.0W - would you put 5.0/4.0 if you chose to use your weighted GPA, or 5.0/5.0?)

I put weighted because that’s what my school uses for rank. Our GPA is out of 100, so I can’t help you there. But 5.0/5.0 would make most sense to me.

BUMP. I was wondering the same thing.

Give weighted if you school provides weighted grades. Maximum scale should be the points you would get for the highest possible weighted grade in a single course, even though the actual highest average GPA in your school is certainly lower than that. At my school the scale is 6.0 because that’s the weighted amount assigned for an A in an AP class.

The UC’s have their own system for calculating GPA but I think listing un-weighted for all the other schools “levels the playing field”.

On the common app, you are supposed to report weighted if your school calculates weighted. From the common app’s instructions:

The college counselor at school recommended not putting any grades on the CA as the admissions officer will anyhow see it on the transcripts-the reason being that grade on the CA do not show the context of courses/rigor/weight-scale etc.

Is this something that others have been advised as well?

Where is this? I don’t see it on the “Academic” page, and I don’t see it on the “Instructions” page either.

Nope, mine told me to put unweighted on the CommonApp.

bump?

I really want to put my weighted, but there are some conflicting opinions on here…

Bump, still waiting for a definitive answer for this question.

Go to Knowledge Base > Completing the Application > Academics >

I am not sure how to report my Class Rank and GPA within the Academics section.

[Support Center](http://s3.parature.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=5524)

Thanks, griffen.

Should I use the 9-12 academic weighted? 9-12 total weighted? 10-12 academic weighted? or 10-12 total weighted?

None of these. Use what your school will report on your transcript. In my case that’s 9-11 total weighted. You don’t have any senior year grades yet, right? So, it can’t be 9-12.

On my transcript it has all of the different weightings…this is ridiculous.

In that case, use one of the 9-11 totals because they are more likely to be the ones your schools consider (only a few schools actually ignore freshman grades.) And then pick the higher of academic or total.

The Common App clearly states that the GPA you supply will NOT replace the GPA reported on your transcript – the transcript will be the final authority on that matter. [From the Common App: “The self-reported information in this section is not intended to take the place of your official records.”]

So feel free to use either weighted or unweighted, academic or total, whichever puts your best foot forward.

if your school uses weighted, put weighted. otherwise, put unweighted

your school goes on a 4.0 scale so you would put 5.0/4.0W. i had the same question, so i ended up calling common app and that’s what they told me. you should all put what GPA your transcript has whether it is weighted or unweighted, because in the end…your transcript will be the final determinant of the integrity recorded in the self-recorded CA transcript.
