Does anyone know how the weighted GPA is calculated?
My assumption has always been that it included the AP / Honor ONLY...
then when I checked into my daughter's naviance account, I noticed it listed the weighted GPA, but then my daughter never took any honor nor AP, I calculated her GPA based on the core subjects such as math / language arts/social studies/ Science and Spanish, the GPA is not the same as the one listed on naviance, does the college include elective such as cooking, and PE in the calculation for GPA?

Your high school will include all courses in her GPA. Then to form weighted GPA, they would give the weighting boost to honors/AP, but it is still all courses. Since your daughter didn’t take any honors or AP, her weighted and unweighted will be the same. Colleges have different policies on grades and what they look at. Some colleges will recalculate GPA, but many will look at the transcript to see what kind of grades she got and in which classes.

And some colleges will include all classes in their own calculated GPA, while some will only use core academic classes. There’s no way to know exactly how each college does their own weighting.

For your purposes in figuring out where your D’s stats fall in a particular college’s range, I’d just use the UW GPA listed on her transcript.

Just want to clarify what people said above. If your D did not take any honor or AP class, then the uwGPA would be the same as wGPA. Each college may recalculate the GPA the way they want (with or without weight, core only or all course, no freshmen or all year, etc). This is not under your control. You just need to provide the GPA the way as it appeared on the transcript. You just need to indicate on the application whether the HS uses wGPA or uwGPA on the application. The adcom would figure out the rest themselves from the grades.
