GPA worries!

Hi all! I've had some worries about med school. My first semester of my frosh year at Rowan University was horrible, a 1.6. My current semester is going well, and I am pulling As and Bs right now.

If I continue to get As and Bs for the rest of my undergrad years, will I still have a shot at medical school?

I'm a biochem major and I have been working in EMS since I was 17 and I continue to do so. I can pull off a 3.5 GPA by senior year if I get ~3.8s from sophmore year to senior year assuming I get a 3.5 this semester, but this is only the mathematical part. In terms of admissions, how will my chances of acceptance be affected by my clinical experience etc? I know that med. schools sometimes understand how the transition into college is rough, but I don't want to have the false pretense that this will help me any significant amount.

No one semester will keep you out of medical school.

That said, you need to figure out why you got that GPA and make sure that it doesn’t happen again from here on out.

^1 semester won’t keep you out but you’ve got to turn this around and a 3.5’s not going to cut it. With so many applicants and less than half the number of seats, you’ve started off WAY behind the curve. GS is right. If you radically change now, you may still be able to pull it off, but realistically if you have another <3.0 semester, you’re probably done.
