I just had a question about how GPA is viewed in admissions. Will they look at the grades for each individual class or do they just see your overall average? I have a 98+ in every math, science, computer science related class I take, but my averages for classes like history, English, and Spanish are around 92-96.
This drags down my overall GPA and really kills my rank (I'm in the top 10% but hardly). I hear about people with immaculate GPAs all around. Does anyone know how badly this will affect my application?
I do have things to make me stand out other than my GPA. I'm going to apply to top engineering schools like MIT, Caltech, Stanford etc.

MIT does not look at GPA at all, since it’s different based on your school. They just looks at your individual grades.

That’s fantastic. Do they look at class rank though?

Academic GPA is important; class rank is only “considered”
