I study in the Indian System and for our exams and tests and the like we get marks out of 100. For our class rankings and related things, we generally take an average of our subject scores out of 100. Normally getting a 90 % means you're definitely in the top 15 of your class. Now, seeing as US colleges seem to ask for your GPA, and I've always been a tad hazy about the exact meaning of the term, I thought I'd ask for a clarification. What GPA would say a 92% average give me. Is it related to the relative performance of others in my class as well, or an independent quantity?
Would appreciate a bit of clarification.
Thanks,

90 and up would be a 4.0.

However, if you got 89 or below even once, your GPA will be lower than a 4.0
