Hi! I'm a freshman currently and first semester was a bit tough for me. I took all advanced classes, and ended up with a C in Math (I suck at math). Therefore, my unweighted gpa for that semester was at a 3.85, and my weighted was a 5.3. During my second semester, I have all A's except for a B in math ( improved a little lol) so my gpa combined would be 3.96. I'm really anxious because I don't think I'm going to get into any good colleges, and I really want to improve my overall gpa. Do you think it's possible to get a 4.0 gpa at the end of senior year, or did i blow it already. :(

Also, I'm in a lot of clubs including; President of Student Council, Speech( I do Oratorical Declamation), Orchestra, Student Director of all the school plays and musicals this year, Key Club, school's newspaper, literary magazine, and I help the special needs kids :)

No, it’s impossible to get a 4.0 if you get something else than an A.

Insert generic “You don’t need a perfect UW GPA to get into a good college” statement here

Seriously. Think about it for a minute. A 3.96 is pretty darn close to a perfect GPA, right? So how in the world is that going to prevent you from getting into a good college? Please, enlighten me, because there is no college that only accepts people with perfect UW GPAs. Combined, freshman through senior year, no, you cannot get a perfect cumulative 4.0, because that would mean you’d have to get a perfect 4.0 every year since it’s your unweighted GPA. You can’t make it up since it’s unweighted and doesn’t include extra weighting, you know what I mean?

You didn’t blow it though, please. Get some perspective. A 3.96 is nearly perfect.

I got a C sophomore year and will probably get another C this year and will still have a 4.0W depending.

I don’t know if our schools grade similarly if at all but other classes could compensate for it?

Just asking, how do you have above a 5?

at our school, honors classes are worth 6 credits idk it’s weird???

@HeisAidanD But that is weighted. Schools look at UNweighted gpa, so no there is no way to compensate for it.

@guineagirl96 My UW is still a 3.8 but either way a C in one class won’t be the end of OP’s life and/or college career… lol.

Yeah, I had 1 C+ and 2 B- when I applied this past year and got 2 full tuition scholarships, so it won’t ruin your app.

@guineagirl96 congrats!!

@CE527M thank you

But they do look at weighted too, it’s not just unweighted GPA.

@mrnephew yes of course, but the above were saying that you could get a 4.0 by taking harder classes. It won’t be a 4.0 unweighted. They do look at weighted, but colleges usually make their own weighted GPA with their own system to compare it better, that way they can compare GPAs that were calculated differently.

I’m sorry, but I seriously want to facepalm at people that think having like a 3.7/3.8 and not a perfect 4.0 GPA will prevent them from going to a good college. You have a freaking 3.96 UW GPA!! Why are you freaking out!?
Anyways, you still have the next 3 years for your GPA to change.

@Animefan1998 ikr.
And my comment was that it won’t make it a 4.0, but it doesn’t matter. There’s nothing wrong with the current gpa.

Oh, well then yes, you definitely can’t get your UW back up to a 4.0. Sorry, I must have misunderstood.

@mrnephew I don’t know what OP was referring to with 4.0, but i assumed unweighted because of the weighted being 5.4 already…

Yeah, that seems to make sense.

Hey, I got a B+ in honors english and since I’m asain, my parents are going to freak out. As in take away my phone, ban all sports and activities and ground me. What should I do? Pls help
